For us, a green home is not simply a commercial description. It is the result of proper design, material selection, controlled prefabrication, and technical solutions that can be documented in practice.
What we really mean by “green” and “eco-friendly homes”
The terms “green” and “eco-friendly” are often used in a general way.
At EasyGreen, we use them only when they correspond to measurable and documented characteristics.
For us, a green and eco-friendly home means:
- low energy consumption during use
- reduced carbon footprint during construction
- a healthy and safe indoor environment
- consistent quality and low operating costs over time
This approach is not based on promises, but on design, materials, and processes that are tested in practice.
Timber Frame: A Conscious Material Choice
The timber load-bearing structure, known as light timber framing, is at the core of our constructions.
Timber is a natural and renewable material, with low embodied energy and excellent suitability for high energy-efficiency buildings.
We use certified structural timber from the Swedish company SCA, with controlled quality and sustainable origin, so that the material choice is based on both environmental and technical criteria.
Carbon Footprint & Environmental Benefits of Timber Homes
The choice of a timber frame offers not only construction and energy advantages, but also significant environmental benefits.
In a comparative life cycle assessment study for detached houses, light-frame timber construction showed a 43.5% lower Global Warming Potential compared to a corresponding construction made of reinforced concrete and masonry.
This means that:
the production and construction of structural elements can place a lower burden on the environment
the overall carbon footprint of the home can be significantly reduced
the concept of “eco-friendly construction” gains specific, measurable meaning
In practice, an eco-friendly home is not judged only by its energy consumption after occupancy, but also by the materials used, the way they are produced, and the total environmental impact throughout the building’s life cycle.
Healthy and Safe Indoor Environment
Our homes are based on natural building materials and do not rely on heavy chemical treatments in order to achieve their energy performance.
Unlike conventional building materials, which may contain naturally occurring radioactive elements due to the origin of aggregates or complex chemical compounds, the timber frame made from certified timber contributes to a clean, safe, and high-quality indoor environment for the home’s occupants.
Why Our Homes Have Low Energy Consumption
Low energy consumption is not the result of a single feature, but of a combination of carefully selected solutions.
In timber frame homes:
- timber has much lower thermal conductivity compared to steel and concrete
- thermal bridges are effectively reduced
- most of the wall thickness can be used for thermal insulation
In conventional or steel structures, the load-bearing structure often acts as a strong heat conductor, negatively affecting the overall thermal performance of the building envelope.
With a timber frame, the envelope works as a unified and predictable system, leading to a substantial reduction in energy needs.
Passive House: Advanced Design and Construction Technology
A passive house is currently one of the most advanced and documented approaches to designing and constructing low-energy homes, with applications across Europe and internationally.
It is not a trend, but a mature methodology based on strict energy balance calculations and proven results in practice.
The energy performance of the home is calculated through PHPP, the Passive House Planning Package, so that the building envelope, windows and doors, thermal bridges, and ventilation operate as an integrated system, leading to almost zero energy requirements.
Bioclimatic Design as the Foundation of All the Above
Bioclimatic design works in a complementary way through:
- proper orientation
- control of sunlight and shading
- use of natural light
- natural ventilation
In this way, the home works together with its environment, allowing us to further reduce energy consumption in combination with the structural, construction, and energy-related characteristics mentioned above.
